How to Use Decision Steps to Target the Right Audience

This article explains how to use Decision Steps in a campaign. Decision Steps help evaluate whether a contact meets specific conditions, such as "Has Visited Our Website?", "Is Present in List", "Is Present in Salesforce", "Is Present in Hubspot", and "Has Intent on Topic". Based on the evaluation, the campaign follows either a True Path (Green) or False Path (Red).


Using Decision Steps in Your Campaign

1. Has Visited Our Website?

Purpose: Determines if contacts have visited the website within a specific timeframe.

Steps:
  1. Click on the "Has Visited Our Website?" step.

  2. A pop-up window will appear. Rename the step if needed (default: "Has Visited Our Website?").

  3. Enter the following details:

    • Visited at least: Set the minimum number of visits.

    • Within the last: Define the timeframe (hours, days, or weeks).

    Click "Save" to finalize the step.

  4. Define the flow for two possible outcomes:

    • True Path (Green): Contacts matching the criteria.

    • False Path (Red): Contacts not matching the criteria.

2. Is Present in List

Purpose: Checks if contacts belong to a specific contact list.

Steps:
  1. Click on the "Is Present in List" step.

  2. A pop-up window will appear. Rename the step if needed (default: "Is Present in List").

  3. Select the List from the dropdown.

  4. Click "Save" to confirm after selecting the list.

  5. Define the flow for two possible outcomes:

    • True Path (Green): Contacts found in the list.

    • False Path (Red): Contacts not found in the list.

3. Is Present in Salesforce

Purpose: Checks if contacts exist in Salesforce.

Steps:
  1. Click on the "Is Present in Salesforce" step.

  3. Select the Salesforce connection from the dropdown (ensure it's created beforehand).

4. Is Present in HubSpot

Purpose: Checks if contacts exist in HubSpot.

Steps:
  1. Click on the "Is Present in HubSpot" step.

  3. Select the HubSpot connection from the dropdown (ensure it's created beforehand).

    • True Path (Green): Contacts found in HubSpot.

5. Has Intent on Topic?

Purpose: Determines if contacts have shown interest in a selected topic.

Steps:
  1. Click on the "Has Intent on Topic" step.

  2. A pop-up window will appear. Rename the step if needed (default: "Has Intent on Topic").

  3. Select an active topic from the dropdown.

  4. Enter the following details:

    • Visited at least: Set the minimum number of visits.

    • Within the last: Define the timeframe in days.

    Click "Save" to finalize the step.

    • True Path (Green): Contacts matching the criteria.

    • False Path (Red): Contacts not matching the criteria.

By following these steps, you can efficiently use Decision Steps to filter and segment contacts in your campaign, ensuring targeted and relevant engagement. Also note that the Feeder steps can connect to decision steps, and multiple contact lists can be linked to a single decision step.
